Buying clothes for the family calls for a lot of thought and pre- planning. Just a casual shopping spree may well let your buys languish in dark corners of the cupboard, neglected forever! It sure is one of the most daunting task. The best thing to do is to persuade your family to do their own choosing but if that's not working out, discuss what it is that they need and would wear, and draw out a list.
Plan the shopping by first figuring out the varying needs of your family members. Draw out a list by looking at everyone's wardrobes.
Identify the stores, if you have several items to buy. Don't just force yourself to finish everything in a single day. Decide the stores you had like to visit and when. Go to the malls and stores which have maximum brands or categories of clothing that you may want to buy.
Choose good brands over not so reliable options since the former are likely to be more durable and work out more economical in the long run. Make sure you choose quality over quantity.
Try to get your family to accompany you so they can try out the clothes at the store itself. This especially holds good during sale seasons, where there is little or no scope for exchange. If they are not accompanying you, get the details of what they want.
Never shop for clothes in a hurry. Do not get disheartened if you do not finish it all in a day, but there is no use buying clothes you won't wear.
While buying clothes for the elderly remember to buy clothes that are elegant yet comfortable for them. Avoid fabrics they might be allergic to.
Buy fabric for children that is comfortable and also sturdy, requires low maintenance and is easy to clean. Don't be bound by particular colors for boys and girls.
Before buying clothes for teens discuss with your teenage children what's to their taste and what not. Don't buy something that you may personally dislike in terms of style, color and print.
