For long men have not been able to decipher the connection between women and their handbags. Mostly all women carry a handbag, of varying sizes, where ever they go. Most men understand it as a fashion statement, a woman wants to make but the story is far more complex then men understand it.
The reasons behind women carrying a handbag are many, first is the existence of the innate biological need that women have to be carers and givers. From the earliest times when men roamed the woods trying to hunt for food, the women were back at the caves taking care of the home. The home-making aspect remains with women today who often haul everything they might need for every emergency in their handbags. The need to take care of not just themselves but also those who are dear to them causes women to always come prepared.
The second answer has less to do with the internal make up of women and more to do with their appearance. When a lady is well-dressed to go out, she has no where to put her essentials other than in the handbag. It carries all the important belongings that the woman needs in just one place apart from making a style statement.
The custom of carrying handbags will exist as long as the women do. They are an integral part of a womans life and to part with them is difficult for any woman.
